Owl swimmers sweep Bentley

        WALTHAM, MASS. 1/21/12 –  Keene State College men's and women's swim teams defeated regional rival Bentley University in a dual meet held at the Dana Center pool on Saturday.

        The Keene State men (4-1) won all 14 swim events and set three meet records on the way to posting a 171-118 victory.

        The Keene State women (6-1) placed first in 13 of the 14 swim races, setting five meet records in a 155-136 win over the Falcons.  The Owls snapped Bentley's 18 dual meet winning streak.

        "I wasn't sure how we would do today," said KSC Coach Jack Fabian. "The last few weeks, the kids seemed a little flat, but they came through and appear on the right track."

        Sophomore Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.) and freshman Randy Dunton (Saint Cloud, Fla.) were triple-winners for the Owls.   Ledwith won the 200 fly (1:57.55), the 100 free (48.71) and the 100 fly (54.61).  His mark in the 200 fly was a meet record.  Dunton swam to first place finishes in the 100 back (54.72), the 200 back (2:01.40) and the 200 IM (2:02.28).

        Freshman Gib Stevens (Reading, Mass.) was a double winning, taking first in the 500 free (4:58.78) and the 1,000 free (10:13.58).

        Single victories were posted by junior Austin Harris (Essex Junction, Vt.) in the 200 free (meet record time of 1:47.84), sophomore  Jared Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) in the  100 breast (1:02.45), sophomore James Black (Lynn, Mass.) in the 50 free (22.11) and junior Marc Marois (Derry, N.H.) in the 200 breast (2:20.84). 

        KSC won both relays. The team of Dunton, Harris, Hyde and Black won the 200 medley relay (1:38.02) while the foursome of Hyde, Harris, Ledwith and Black won the 400 free relay in a meet record time of 3:16.04.

        Four members of the Keene State women's team won two races.  Freshman Julie Trodden (Reading Mass.) won the 500 free (meet record- 5:17.68) and the 1,000 free (meet record-10:46.41), freshman Taylor DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y.) won the 50 free (25.68) and the 100 back (1:02.94), senior Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) won the 100 fly (1:00.20) and the 200 fly (2:14.17), and freshman Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) won the 200 breast (meet record -2:26.27) and the 200 IM  (meet record-2:14.83).

        Individual event winners included freshman Caitlyn Shea (Salem, N.H.) in the 200 free (meet record- 1:58.47), senior Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.) in the 100 free (56.00) and sophomore Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) in the 200 back (2:14.09).

        The KSC women also won a pair of relays.  The team of Whitaker, O'Leary, Pimer and DaSilva won the 200 medley relay (1:52.55) and the squad of Whitaker, Trodden, Murray and Shea prevailed in the 400 free relay (3:44.39).

        The Owls compete next Saturday at Conn. College.
