SPRINGFIELD, Mass. 1/21/12 - Junior Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.) qualified for ECAC Championships with two personal bests, while sophomore Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) also hit the mark in another event, as the Keene State College men's and women's track teams competed at the Springfield College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Fitter, who ran personal bests in both the 1,000 (3:01.17) and 600 (1:37.25) meter races, finished first and second respectively to pace the women's team to a fifth place finish and 47 points.
Also turning in a strong performance for the women, senior Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.) also qualified for ECAC's with her 1st place performance in the mile (5:04.51), while also crossing the finish line third in the 800 (2:28.82).
In the throwing events, sophomore Sarah DiTonno (Wakefield, Mass.) qualified for New England Division III Championships in the weight throw with a toss of 41'-2.25'' and a ninth place finish.
M.I.T. won the women's meet with 163 points.
Widzgowski's performace in the mile was also a personal bests, as the sophomore also placed fifth in the 800 meter race in a time of 2:02.21.
Junior Chris Plankey (Bristol, N.H.) finished fifth in the 1,000 in a time of 2:40.12, while also taking home sixth in the 600 meter race in 1:26.01.
The men's team finished with 13 points, while M.I.T. took the meet with 176 points.
The Owls will split next weekend, with some heading to Boston University's Terrier Invitational on Friday and Saturday, and others heading to Southern Maine on Saturday.
