Box Score MANSFIELD, CONN. 10/13/12 – Junior Katlyn Simula (Bridgewater, N.H.) and freshman Lyndsie Rabenius (North Hampton, N.H.) each netted two goals to lead the Keene State College field hockey team to a 7-2 Little East Conference win over Eastern Conn. State in Mansfield, Conn. on Saturday.
The Owls, who snap a two game losing streak, improve to 10-6 and 7-1 in the LEC. ECSU (4-10, 1-7 LEC) has dropped six of its last seven games. Keene State is tied with Bridgewater State for second place in the LEC.
Keene State scored the first three goals of the game. Senior Alex Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) connected on a penalty corner for her ninth goal of the season. Rabenius tipped a shot by senior Kailin Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) under the cross bar to make it 2-0. Simula's drive on a penalty corner upped the lead to 3-0.
The Warriors responded with goals from freshmen Laura Chicorka (Enfield, Conn.) and Hannah Keiser (Danbury, Conn.) cutting the Owls' lead to 3-2.
Rabenius scored on a shot to the far corner for her second goal of the game and fifth of the season to give KSC a 4-2 halftime lead.
The Owls netted three unanswered goals in the second half. Kailin Billert scored her team-leading 16th goal of the season, Simula got her second goal of the game and fourth of the season on a penalty stroke, and sophomore Marisa Lemoine (Berlin, N.H.) wrapped up the scoring with her eighth goal of the season.
Keene State outshot ECSU 24-7 and had a slim 8-6 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
Sophomore Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.) played the first 52:08 and made three saves. Freshman Chloe Audesse (Goffstown, N.H.) played the final 17:52 and didn't register a save.
Sophomore Olivia Mullen (Bethel, Conn.) made 13 saves for Eastern.
In LEC play, Keene State leads the series against ECSU 14-1.
Keene State hosts Westfield State on Wednesday (6 p.m.).
