KEENE, N.H. 10/13/12 – The Keene State College women's volleyball team defeated Mount Holyoke College and Smith College in the Little East/NEWMAC Challenge held at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
The Owls (14-11), who wore pink tops as part of their Dig Pink fundraiser for breast cancer awareness, swept Mount Holyoke 3-0 (25-20, 25-18 and 25-15) and won a four game match against Smith College 3-1 (25-12, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-22).
Freshman Angela Silveri (Poughquag, N.Y.) had 13 kills, four digs and two blocks to lead the Owls over Mount Holyoke. Sophomore Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, Va.) finished with seven kills, two service aces and 13 digs while freshman setter Haley Willumsen (Shelter Island, N.Y.) had 18 assists.
Junior Martina (Oro Valley, Ariz.) led the Lyons (3-13) with nine kills and 11 digs. Freshman Emma Sweeting (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) had seven kills and six digs and sophomore Stephany Yang (Glen Allen, Va.) finished with 15 assists.
Freshman Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) had a fine overall match for the Owls against Smith, finishing with 14 kills, three assists, five service aces and 10 digs. Silveri continued her strong play with 13 kills and three service aces while Dormio had 12 kills and 17 digs. Freshman Kaitlin Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.) also had a solid match in the back row with 17 digs.
Freshmen setters Willumsen and Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) finished with 26 and 23 assists respectively.
Junior Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H.) had 12 kills and 10 digs and sophomore Kristi Hammond (Yona Guam,) finished with 10 kills to lead Smith (6-12). Freshman setter Me-Li Smith (Cypress, Ca.) chipped in with 15 assists.
Keene State host Little East leader and three-time conference champ UMass-Boston on Thursday (7 p.m.).
