Box Score WALTHAM, MASS. 11/10/12 – The third seeded Keene State College women's volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to second seed Western New England University in a semifinal match of the ECAC New England tournament played at Brandeis University on Saturday.
The Golden Bears won the closely-contested match by the scores of (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21).
Keene State concludes its season with a 20-17 record. WNEU (24-7) will play top seed Brandeis for the ECAC Championship later today. Brandeis moved on to the finals with a 3-0 win over fifth seed Salve Regina University.
Falling behind 9-2 in the opening set, the Owls rallied to tie the score 18-18. The Golden Bears won the final three points to take the set 25-21.
Nursing a three point lead (18-15), KSC won four of the next five points on the way to taking the second set 25-20.
The third set came down to the final points. After Keene State tied the match (23-all) on a kill by freshman Angela Sliveri (Poughquag, N.Y.), WNEU scored the final two points to win the set 25-23.
In the fourth set, the Golden Bears went up 23-17 and took the set 25-21.
Sophomore Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, Va.) had a fine match for the Owls, finishing with 16 kills and 16 digs. Silveri had 12 kills. Sophomore Samantha Branning (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) each finished with eight kills. Freshman libero Kaitlin Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.) had 15 digs while freshman setter Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) finished with 44 assists.
Emily McGran had 11 kills and Devyn Frank finished with 10 kills to lead the Judges. Tyler Singh had four service aces and Heather Mears chipped in with 44 assists for Brandeis.
Keene State, which was making its third consecutive appearance in the tournament, won the title in 2010.
