Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Sarah Phelan (Northbridge, Mass.) led a group of four Keene State College players who scored in double figures Tuesday evening as the Owls defeated Plymouth State University, 77-51, in Little East Conference women's basketball action at Foley Gym.
Phelan came off the bench to tie her season high with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting and grab eight rebounds, while senior Courtney Cirillo (Windsor Locks, Conn.) added 14 points (on 6-of-7 shooting) and 10 boards for her eighth double-double of the season. Senior Meghan Farrell (Chester, Vt.) and junior Siobhan Carnell (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points apiece. Keene State won its seventh straight game- it's longest winning streak since the 2007-08 season - and improved to 15-5 overall and 9-2 in the LEC, sole possession of second place.
Junior Sam Monohon (Auburn, N.H.) led the Panther effort with 10 points, while freshman Tiffany Lewis (Hillsboro, N.H.) and senior Michaela Galvin (Windham, N.H./Salem) added nine points apiece. The Panthers had their three-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 5-16 overall and 1-10 in conference play.
After falling behind by seven points in the early going, PSU battled back to pull to within one point, 13-12, with 11 minutes to play in the first half. A 13-3 Keene State run pushed the margin into double digits (26-15) with seven minutes remaining, and the Owls pulled away to a 16-point bulge at the intermission, 38-22.
Keene State got the lead up to 20 points in the first two minutes of the second half, and PSU didn't challenge the rest of the way.
Both teams play LEC games again on Saturday, Keene State visiting Western Connecticut State University and Plymouth State hosting UMass Boston on Senior Day at Foley Gym.
