Box Score FITCHBURG, MASS. 9/15/12 – The Keene State College field hockey team snapped a three game losing streak with a 5-0 Little East Conference shutout victory over Fitchburg State on Saturday.
Junior Aimee Donaruma (Hamden, Mass./Minnechaug) notched two goals to lead Keene State to the win at Elliot Field this morning.
Keene State jumped out an early lead just 5:09 into the first period as freshman Haley Dolan (W. Brookfield, Mass./Quaboug) registered her first collegiate marker. Dolan collected her own rebound and deposited the ball inside the far post for the 1-0 lead.
The Owls upped their lead at the 15:44 mark when freshman Bella Robinson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) knocked home a loose ball in front of the net for her first marker for the season to put Keene State up 2-0 going into halftime.
In the second half, Keene State came out firing, posting three consecutive goals en-route to its third victory of the season. Following back-to-back scores by Donaruma, the Owls capped their scoring as junior Hannah Gage (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon) received a feed from Dolan and fired a shot into the back of the cage for the 5-0 final.
Throughout the contest, Keene State controlled the offensive front, out shooting Fitchburg State 31-10, while holding a 21-4 margin in penalty corners. Between the pipes, sophomore Lucy Holewa (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) registered 20 saves in the complete game effort for the Falcons, while sophomore Caitlin Devino-Draper (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) made four stops in 54 minutes of action for the Owls.
Keene State (3-3, 1-1 LEC) will host Trinity College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
