Owls take two in women's volleyball tri-match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  9/15/12 – The Keene State women's volleyball team reached the .500 mark and won its first Little East Conference match of the season in a tri-match wins over Rhode Island College and Westfield State at the Murray Center in Providence on Saturday.

"Let's see if we can manage not to get under .500 the rest of the season," said KSC Coach Bob Weiner.  "We're still trying to establish an identity, but I like that we're spreading the ball around.  A lot of different kids are scoring for us."

Keene State (5-5, 1-0 LEC) stormed past RIC 3-0 (25-22, 25-19 and 25-22) in the LEC opener for both teams.  The Owls won the match behind nine kills and a team-high 18 digs from sophomore libero Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, VA). Freshman outside hitter Angela Silveri (Poughquag, NY) tacked on nine kills and a team-high four aces, while freshman middle blocker Kaylee Deluga (Barnstable, MA) added eight kills and a team-leading four blocks.

In its second match of the afternoon, Keene State again cruised to a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-13, 26-24), this time over Westfield State (1-9). Freshman setter Haley Willumsen (Shelter Island, NY) dished out 18 assists to lead KSC, while sophomore outside hitter Samantha Branning (Glastonbury, CT) led the match with nine kills.

Keene State returns home for a four match home stand that begins Tuesday with a non-conference match against Colby-Sawyer (7:30 p.m.).
