Box Score The Keene State College Owls volleyball team lost Thursday night to Rivier College after what looked like it was going to be a promising start.
The Owls won the first set in dominating fashion 25-12. They managed to keep the score even until 8-8 in the second game, but then a strong rally left the score at 9-17 before the Owls eventually fell 25-12.
Keene was able to rally and come close to taking the third set, but eventually fell again 25-18 before giving up the fourth and final set 25-15.
Freshmen Angela Silveri (Poughquag, NY) and Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, MA) led the way offensively for the Owls with 17 kills between them. Each added a solo block in the match as well.
Alexis Michal (Windham, NH) continued her strong recent play with 11 assists and two digs in the match.
Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, VA) and Kaitlin Boyer (W. Greenwich, RI) both lead the way defensively with 6 digs each.
As with all losses, the coach is able to see both good and bad things. Coach Weiner is no exception.
"We've proven we're talented enough to win one set," he said of the first set dominance by his team. "Unfortunately you have to win three."
The loss drops the Owls to 5-7 before their matches this weekend at Spaulding Gym.
