Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I 9/29/12 – The Keene State College women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches at Roger Williams University on Saturday.
The Owls (8-9) began the day by upsetting the University of New England 3-2. UNE came into the match ranked 15th in the latest New England poll. It was the second straight victory for KSC over a ranked team. They defeated 13th ranked Southern Vermont College on Thursday.
Keene State lost its second match of the day to Roger Williams 3-0.
The match against the University of New England was a five game barn-burner. The two teams split the first four games. Keene State won the first game 25-20 and the third game 25-8 while the Nor'easters took game two 25-21 and the fourth game 25-17. The Owls won the fifth and deciding game 15-13.
Moved to outside hitter, Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, Va.) responded with a career high 19 kills to go with 10 digs. Several freshmen continue to make key contributions. Angela Silveri (Poughquag, N.Y.) had 13 kills, Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) added 10 kills and six digs, libero Kaitlin Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.) chipped in with 17 digs and setter Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) finished with 30 assists.
Keene State lost to the host Hawks 25-14, 25-17 and 25-16.
Deluga had six kills, Michal finished with 17 assists and Boyer had 13 digs.
"I thought we had a terrific week," said KSC Coach Bob Weiner. "Every time these players go out on the court they learn something. Losing to good teams will only help us down the road."
Keene State host rival Plymouth State in a key Little East Conference match on Tuesday (6 p.m.)
