Bridgewater State field hockey blanks Owls 1-0

BRIDGEWATER, MASS. 9/7/12 - The Keene State College field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, falling on the road to Bridgewater State University on Friday night. 

It was the first regular season Little East Conference loss for the Owls (2-1, 0-1 LEC) since dropping a 2-1 game to Salem State back on Oct. 20, 2010 -a span of 14 games.   Bridgewater State (3-0, 1-0 LEC) remains undefeated.

Senior Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game on a penalty corner at the 38:51 mark of the second half.  Junior Georgina Bagordo (Sparta, N.J.) assisted on the goal.

Keene State had multiple opportunities to get the equalizer, but couldn't connect on its penalty corner plays.  The Owls had 12 penalty corners, including three consecutive attempts with just under 10 minutes to play, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Bears had 11 penalty corners.

Sophomore Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.) finished the game with four saves.  Senior Cassie Johansen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) stopped five shots to post the shutout in goal for BSU.

Keene State returns home for a non-conference game against Amherst College on Sunday (1:30 p.m.).
