Seniors lead Owls over Panthers 83-62

PLYMOUTH, N.H.  1/15/12 – Senior Ryan Martin (Wayne, Maine) scored a game high 20 points and senior Rashad Wright (Agawam, Mass.) finished with 18 points and a game high 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season and the 11th of his career, leading the Keene State men's basketball team to a 83-62 Little East Conference win over rival Plymouth State University at Foley Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Both Martin and Wright had terrific shooting nights from the field for the Owls (9-6, 4-2 LEC).  Martin, who was held to four points in Saturday's loss to RIC, hit 8-11 (73%) from the field and knocked down 4-6 of his three-point attempts while Wright went 7-11 (64%). He also had three blocks and two steals in the game.

Seniors Anthony Mariano (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Eric Fazio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) also had strong games for KSC.  Mariano had 17points on 7-11 shooting while Fazio, who connected on all seven of his attempts from the line, finished with 15 points and six rebounds.

The hot-shooting Owls went 32-63 (51%) from the field, 8-19 (42%) from behind the arc, and a perfect 11-11 (100%) from the line.

Sophomores Alex Burt (Dover, N.H.) and Adam Goodwin (Lee, N.H.) each scored 12 points for the Panthers (3-12, 1-5 LEC).

Leading 22-20, Keene State used a 15-5 run to open up a 12 point lead (37-25) on a pair of free throws by Wright. PSU junior Nick Moll (Swampscott, Mass.) scored the final four points, including a base-line jumper at the buzzer, to cut the Owls lead to 37-29 at the half.

The Owls pulled away from the Panthers in the second half.  Martin scored five straight points on a mid-range jumper and three-pointer to make it a 51-38 game at the 12:07 mark.

Freshman guard Jesse LaCroix (Orange, Mass.) dished a pass in the lane to Wright for a slam that put KSC up 55-42 at the midway point of the half.

Junior Montel Walcott (New Haven, Conn.)and Wright put the finishing touches on the win.   Taking the ball at the foul line, Walcott drove the lane for a power lay-up to make it 70-49 and Wright cleaned up a miss shot by freshman Bobby Crane (Cambridge, Mass.) by slamming home the offensive rebound to give the Owls an 83-53 with 1:46 remaining in the game.

Keene State hosts UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday (3 p.m.).
