FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. 1/5/13 – Several members of the
Keene State College swim team kicked off the New Year by competing
in the Annual International Swim Hall of Fame (ISHOF) Rough Water
Race in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Saturday.
The one mile ocean swim culminated the team's week of winter
training in the Sunshine State.
Award categories were designated by college class. In the
women's field, junior Stephanie Murray
(Haverhill, Mass.) placed third (25:34). Sophomores Diana
Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) and Lindsay Day
(Chelmsford, Mass.) finished first (25:41) and third (28:36)
respectively in their class while Rebecca Stewart
(East Lyme, Conn.) took third in the freshmen field.
On the men's side, sophomore Randy Dunton
(St. Cloud, Fla.) was second with a time of 22:35 while
freshmen James Collis (Laconia, N.H.) and
Mark Strothenke (New Paltz, N.Y.) finished seventh
(25:55) and eighth (26:11) respectively.
I thought they did really well and were very competitive,”
said KSC Coach Jack Fabian. “We have
some very strong swimmers, but a lot of kids have anxiety swimming
out in the ocean, so some of them had to overcome some pretty tough
conditions.”
The Keene State women's swim team host Plymouth State
University on Wednesday (1 p.m.).
