Box Score KEENE, N.H. 10/1/13 – Junior Marisa Lemoine (Berlin, N.H.) had two goals and sophomore goalie Chloe Audesse (Goffstown, N.H.) made five saves, including a couple of point-blank stops, to lead Keene State College to a 3-0 Little East Conference field hockey victory over rival Plymouth State University at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.
The Owls (9-1, 4-0 LEC) remain tied for the top spot in the LEC standings with UMass-Dartmouth. The loss snapped Plymouth State's (4-4, 3-1 LEC) four game winning streak.
Lemoine got the Owls on the board with her fist goal of the game at the 17:48 mark of the first half when she finished off a crossing ball from freshman Sammi Smith (Merrimack N.H., Merrimack).
Freshman Kayla Renaud (Somers, Conn.) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season on a rebound to give KSC a 2-0 lead.
Audesse made sure KSC maintained its two goal advantage with just under five minutes to play in the first half when she came flying out of her net to rob Plymouth junior Kristen Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) on a corner opportunity. "I knew I could do it. We did the same play in practice and I just applied it to the game," said Audesse. "I knew I had to be on my game tonight."
Audesse, who notched her second shutout of the season, came up big again early in the second half, stopping consecutive close-range shots off the stick of senior Jackie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) and Morris.
Lemoine finished off the scoring with her second goal of the game and fifth of the season when she directed another assist from Smith into an open net after PSU senior goalie Hilary Lemelin (Milan, N.H.) was pulled out of position.
"It was a great team win. We always get pumped up to play Plymouth," said Lemoine. "We worked hard and we got the win."
Lemelin finished the game with seven saves for the Panthers.
KSC outshot PSU 23-14 and had a slim 10-9 advantage on corners.
