Owls take two; defeat UMass-Dartmouth and Wesleyan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS.10/26/13 – The Keene State College women's volleyball team defeated UMass-Dartmouth and Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center.

Keene State earned two victories on the day and improved to an overall record of 19-12 and a 5-1 conference record. The Owls defeated the Corsairs in four sets 25-18, 25-18, 23-25 and 27-25.

After taking the first two sets, the owls dropped the third set to UMass Dartmouth. The Corsairs jumped out to an 11-7 advantage to start game four.  With the score even at 16 apiece, the Corsairs generated a 5-2 run and forced Keene State's coaching staff to burn their second timeout of the game.  The brief break in action worked in the Owl's favor as it seemed to deplete the momentum of UMass Dartmouth and allowed Keene State's overpowering offense to solidify the match.  "Freshman Leslie Hearns (Bedford, N.Y.) came in and gave us a big lift in the fourth set," said KSC Coach Bob Weiner.

The Owls evenly spread offensive attack was highlighted by sophomore Madeline Nossif (Portsmouth, N.H.) with 12 kills. Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) and Brooke Bell (Melrose, Mass.) handed out 20 and 13 assists, while junior Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, Va.) led the team with 21 digs.

In game two on the day, KSC swept Wesleyan 3-0 (25-16, 25-21 and 25-11)

Sophomore Angela Silveri (Poughquog, N.Y.) and junior Samantha Branning (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the way each with 11 kills.  Sophomore Christine Hadfield (Waterford, Conn.) had 10 digs and Bell finished with 19 assists.

The Owls return home on Tuesday for a Dig Pink and Little East match against Southern Maine (7 p.m.).
