Box Score KEENE, N.H. 11/16/13 – Endicott College defeated Keene State College 67-59 in the championship game of the 18th annual KSC women's basketball Tip-off Tournament at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
It marks the first time since 1997, a span of 16 years, that the Owls (1-1) didn't win their tip-off tournament.
Junior Christan Wojtas (Amherst, N.H.) scored 15 points and freshman Sarah Kober (Easthampton, Mass.) had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Owls.
Senior Samantha Crough (Cohasset, Mass.) had a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Gulls (2-0).
Endicott never trailed in the game. KSC junior Rachael Brucks (Suwanee, Geo.) hit a three-pointer in the final minute of the first half to make it a 31-26 game at the break.
Kober hit a lay-up with 14:42 to play in the second half to get the Owls to within four points (40-36), but the Gulls went on a 16-3 run, capped off by a three-pointer by sophomore Nicole Catizone (Woburn, Mass.), to give the Gulls a 56-39 lead.
Junior Courtney Roberts (Sutton, Mass.), who had six points and seven rebounds, was named to the All-Tournament team along with Kober.
KSC had a tough time shooting, hitting just four of its 23 three-point shots (17%) and going 5-12 from the line (42%).
It was the first meeting between the two squads since 2010, where the Owls edged the Gulls in overtime 64-59.
Mass College of Liberal Arts defeated Green Mountain 79-17 in the consolation game of the tournament.
Keene State is at nationally ranked Amherst College on Tuesday (7 p.m.)
