WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT. 2/9/13 – Keene State College
men's and women's swim teams each won six of the eight
races contested on Saturday to increase their respective leads at
the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Championships
at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center in White River Junction,
Vt.
Following 31 events, the 14th ranked Keene State women teams has
a wide 1,125-783.5 lead over second place Eastern Conn. In
the men's competition, the 15th ranked Owls moved ahead of
Roger Williams University 688.5-498. The KSC women are
looking for their fifth NEISDA title while the Owl men hope to
claim their fourth crown.
In the women's competition, Keene State swept the top
three spots in the 50 fly. Junior Alexis
Houser (New Hope, Pa.) won with a time of 26.67, freshman
Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) was second
(27.01) and freshman Olivia Gallugi (Reading,
Mass.) was third (27.23.).
KSC also finished one-two in the 1,000 free with sophomore
Julie Trodden (Reading, Mass.) taking first with a
meet record time of 10:35.30. Freshman Rebecca
Stewart (East Lyme, Conn.) was second (10:51.74).
The Owls picked up points by securing the second through fifth
spots in the 100 back; Freshman Brianna Laliberte
(Candia, N.H.) was second (1:00.86), junior Stephanie
Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) was third (1:00.88), junior
Nicole Rutigliano (Woodbury, Conn.) was fourth
(1:01.11) and sophomore Taylor DaSilva (Stony
Brook, N.Y.) placed fifth (1:01.15)
In other races, sophomore Diana Pimer (West
Haven, Conn.) won the 400 I.M. race with a NCAA championship B cut
qualifying time of 4:35.36. Sophomore Caitlin
Shea (Salem, N.H.) topped the field in the 200 free
(1:56.96). Freshman Madison Sestak (Liverpool,
N.Y.) was second in the 100 breast (1:07.98).
The KSC women also swept both relays. The team of
Laliberte, Houser, Pimer and Bartlett won the 200 medley relay
(1:48.76) and the foursome of Trodden, Houser, Shea and Murray won
the 800 free relay (7:46.80).
In the men's field, senior Austin Harris
(Essex Junction, Vt.) won the 200 free (1:42.37). Freshman
Drew Krentsa (Brookfield, Conn.) was third
(1:45.55).
Junior Randy Dunton (St. Cloud, Fla.) posted a
NCAA Championship B cut qualifying time with his first-place finish
(51.63) in the 100 back.
Freshman Shahar Resman (Asdod, Israel) finished
first in the 1,000 free (9:55.35). Freshman Matthew
Ahlberg (Glastonbury, Conn.) was third (10:02.57).
Senior Marc Marois (Derry, N.H.) won the 400 IM
with a time of 4:15.19 while junior Dan Oliveira
(Ludlow, Mass.) tied for second (23.75) in the 50 fly.
Three KSC juniors finished second through fourth in the 100
breast. Jared Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) was
second (58.08), Tyler Tambascio (Greenwich, Conn.)
was third (59.73) and James Black (Lynn,
Mass.) was fourth (59.84).
The KSC men won both relay races on Saturday. Freshman
Aiden Quinn (Groton, Conn.) joined Dunton,
Tambascio and Oliveria to win the 200 medley relay (1:34.83).
The team of juniors Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H)
and Hyde and freshmen Cole Hogg (Manchester,
N.H.) and Resman finished the day in style by winning the 800 free
relay with a NCAA A cut qualifying and meet record time of
6:40.59.
The three-day meet concludes on Sunday.
