Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FLA. 3/15/13 - Freshman Mariah Crisp (Greenland, N.H.) struck out a season high 12 batters and senior Meryl Ragaini (Seymour, Conn.) cracked a three-run home run, the Owls' first bomb of the season, to lead the Keene State College softball team to a 8-4 win over Bowdoin College at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida on Friday.
Later in the day, Keene State (3-5) dropped a 3-2 game to Salve Regina University.
Crisp, who gave up four late runs on five hits, evened her record at 2-2 during the Owls' spring week trip.
Crisp got plenty of offensive support against the Polar Bears (4-1). In addition to Ragaini's home run, sophomore Samantha Nitso (Londonderry, N.H.), and freshmen Stephanie Long (Salem, N.H.) and Morgan Fallon (Reading, Mas.) each had two hits for Keene State.
KSC broke open a scoreless game with a four-run fifth inning. Long had an RBI single and Ragaini capped off the inning with her three-run shot to centerfield.
The Owls scored four more runs in the top of the seventh inning with senior Nicole Dupuis (Fitchburg, Mass.), Nitso, and Fallon knocking in runs.
Keene State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Salve Regina. Freshman Christy McGraw (Hudson, Mass.) led off with a triple and came home on a throwing error.
The Seahawks score two runs in the second and one more in the fourth to go up 3-1. KSC got one run back in the bottom of the seventh on a run-producing single by senior Jess Fiorenza (Wakefield, Mass.).
Ragaini, who had two of the Owls' seven hits in the game, was also the starting pitcher for KSC. She pitched the first three innings, allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Her record falls to 0-2.
Keene State wraps up its spring week trip with game against Plattsburg State on Saturday.
