MEDFORD, MASS. 3/2/13 – Several members of the Keene State College track team warmed up for next weekend's NCAA Division III Championships by setting school record at the Tufts University Last Chance meet held in Medford, Mass. on Saturday.
Senior Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.), who will run the 800 at the national championships, finished second in the 600 with a school record time of 1:35.81.
Junior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Me.) who has qualified for the NCAAs in the mile, ran the 800 and placed seventh with a personal best time of 1:55.94.
Senior Janel Haggerty (Guilford, Conn.) also set a school record with her second place finish (9.03) in the 60-meter hurdles. Haggerty will compete in the pentathlon at the NCAA championships. Haggerty also placed second in the high jump (5'-04.25").
"We sat on our times as far as the NCAA qualifications are concerned and used the meet as a speed workout," said KSC Coach Peter Thomas. "They ran well and did what they had to do,"
Keene State had a handful of other runners at the meet. Freshman Hayden Patterson (Dover, N.H.) finished second in the 1,000 (2:37.45), freshman Samantha Goldsmith (Derry, N.H.) was sixth in the 3,000 (10:36.38), sophomore Kait Wheeler (Exeter, N.H.) placed seventh in the mile (5:19.37).
The NCAA Division III Championships take place next weekend (March 8-9) at Naperville, Ill.
