SPRINGFIELD, MASS. 4/20/13 – Keene State College men's and women's track teams combined to win six events at the Springfield College Invitational held at the Blake Track on Saturday.
In team scoring, the Keene State men finished third with 98 points. WPI won the team title with 229 points. The Owl women were fourth with 94 point. The host Pride finished first with 159 points.
The KSC men won three field events. Senior Glenn Guilmette (Kensington, N.H.) won the javelin (194'-07"), junior Angus Fisher (Northampton, Mass.) won the discus (147'-08") and sophomore Ben Keach (Newfield, N.H.) won the shot-put (45'-01.50). Keach also placed second in the discus (141'-06") and senior Marcus Ferenc (Westmoreland, N.H.) was the runner-up in the javelin (169'-10").
On the track, senior Thomas Paquette (Bolton, Conn.) won the 10 K (33:00.56), and senior Andrew Sears (Derry, N.H.) took second in the 5K (15:42.72). Senior Chris Plankey (Bristol, N.H.) also placed second in the 800 (1:59.13). Freshman Eric Dietz (Prospect, Conn.) placed third in the 400 (51.59).
Sophomore Kaitlin Wheeler (Exeter, N.H.) and freshman Lauren Markoe (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) turned in the top performances by the Keene State women at the meet. Wheeler won the 5K (18:29.75) and Markoe won the 800 (2:17.13). Sophomore Kaley Mientkiewicz (Hanson Mass.) was third in the 5K (19:23.61) while freshman Samantha Goldsmith (Derry, N.H.) was fourth (19:29.70).
In field events, junior Sarah DiTonno (Wakefield, Mass.) was third in the shot-put (35'-11.50") while senior Whitney Cyr (Milford, Mass.) was third in the hammer (134'-01") and fourth (33'-02.00") in the shot. Sophomore Samantha Folland (Newfields, N.H.) was also third in the discus with a school record mark of 122'-8".
Senior Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.)and junior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) also competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J.) Friday night. Widzgowski won his heat and finished 11th over in the 1,500 with a time of 3:48.75, then top time posted in Division III so far this season. Running in the 800, Fitter placed second in her 800 heat with a time of 2:13.18.
Keene State will be at the Little East Conference championships at Bridgewater State next Saturday.
