Box Score 2 KEENE, N.H. 4/21/13 — The Keene State College softball team found itself on the winning and losing ends of Little East Conference games that were stopped due to the eight-run rule against Rhode Island College at Owl Athletic Complex on Sunday.
Freshman Mariah Crisp (Greenland, N.H.) gave up one run and three hits over six innings with 13 strikeouts and senior Jessica Fiorenza (Wakefield, Mass.) knocked in three runs to lead the Owls over RIC 9-1 in the first game.
Senior Marisa Jandreau (Plainville, Conn.) and sophomore Justine Thoma (Canterbury, Conn.) each had two RBIs to lead the Anchorwomen to a 13-3 win over KSC in the second game that was halted after five innings.
The split leaves KSC at 15-10 and 5-3 in the LEC while RIC goes to 16-16 (5-3 LEC).
Keene State jumped out an early lead in the opener, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first that included an RBI single off the bat of Fiorenza. They added another run in the second on a RBI single to center by senior Meryl Ragaini (Seymour, Conn.).
RIC picked up its only run of the game on a solo home run by junior Stacy Pokora (Wilton, Conn.) in the top of the fourth inning.
The Owls put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior Nicole Dupuis (Fitchburg, Mass.) brought home one run with an RBI single. The others runs came in on an error, ground out, and walk.
Freshman Stephanie Long (Salem, N.H.) led KSC's 10-hit attack with three hits. Sophomore Sara Bracken (Windham, N.H.) and Fiorenza each finished with two hits.
Crisp notched her ninth double-digit strikeout game of the season. She has 156 on the season, 37 shy of the record of 193 set by Lindsay Blood in 1999.
Senior Jessica Borden (Lincoln, R.I.) took the loss for RIC.
In the second game, the Anchorwomen took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on RBI singles from Thoma and junior Michelle Sylvestre (Warwick, R.I.). They tacked on four more runs in the third to go up 6-0. Thoma had an RBI single in the inning.
Keene State got one run back in the bottom of the fourth on a lead-off home run by Ragaini, her team-leading seventh of the season.
RIC broke the game open by scoring seven runs in the fifth inning. Jandreau had a two-run single to highlight the inning for the Anchorwomen.
Freshman Anna Glassman (East Granby, Conn.) had a solo home run, the first of her college career, as KSC scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
KSC had four hits in the second game.
Thoma had three hits and Jandreau and Pokora each had two hits for RIC.
Sophomore Kellie Saunders (East Hartford, Conn.) took for the loss for the Owls. Sylvestre picked up the win in the circle for Rhode Island College.
Keene State hosts Middlebury College on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
