Box Score 2 NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 4/6/13 – The Keene State College softball team began its Little East Conference schedule by splitting a doubleheader against UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.
Freshman Mariah Crisp (Greenland, N.H.) tossed a complete game two hitter, tying a school-record with 15 strikeouts and freshman Anna Glassman (East Granby, Conn.) doubled home the winning run in the top of the seventh as the Owls won the opener 1-0.
The Corsairs scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the nightcap 8-7.
Crips was dominating in the first game, allowing just two singles, while fanning the sides in the first, second and fifth innings. She didn't walk a batter.
Keene State (8-8, 1-1 LEC) got the lone run of the game in the seventh. With two outs, junior Ellissa Coburn (Claremont, N.H.) doubled to right center and came home on a double to left field by Glassman.
Sophomore Sara Bracken (Windham, N.H.) had two of the Owls six hits in the game.
Freshman Shannon Orton (Swansea, Mass.) also had a fine outing in the circle for UMD, giving up one run on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
In the second game, Keene State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a RBI double through the left side by senior Nicole Dupuis (Fitchburg, Mass.).
The Owls scored four runs in the fourth to go up 5-1. Junior Molly Dussault (Weare, N.H.) and sophomore Sarah Nichols (Sturbridge, Mass.) had run-scoring hits and sophomore Katie Newell (Shoreham, N.Y.) had a two-run double in the inning.
UMass-Dartmouth scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and one more in the sixth to tie the score at 5-all.
The game remained tied until the top of the eighth when KSC scored two runs to go up 7-5. Freshmen Stephanie Long (Salem, N.H.) and Morgan Fallon (Reading, Mass.) brought the runs in with RBI singles.
UMD rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game. With two outs, junior Emily Pontes (Tewksbury, Mass.) had a two-run double and sophomore Samantha Gregoire (Dartmouth, Mass.) scored the winning runs with a double to left center.
Dussault had two of the Owls nine hits in the game.
Pontes had two hits and three RBIs for the Corsairs (9-13, 1-3 LEC).
Crisp, who pitched the final 2.2 innings of the game for the Owls, took the loss, dropping her record to 6-3.
Orton picked up the win for the Corsairs.
Keene State hosts Williams College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
