Owls spit two matches at Conn. College tri-meet

NEW LONDON, CONN. 9/7/13 – Keene State College split a pair of matches in a women's volleyball tri-match at Connecticut College in New London, Conn. on Saturday.

The Owls (3-2) defeated Wheaton College 3-1 in its opening match in four sets, 25-22, 28-26, 19-25 and 25-20. 

Sophomore Christine Hadfield (Waterford, Conn.) led the Owls offense with 10 kills while sophomore setter Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) had 16 assists and freshman Brooke Bell (Melrose, Mass.) finished with two service aces.  Defensively, sophomore Kaitlin Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I) had 23 digs and junior Samantha Branning (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished with five blocks.

Keene State lost its second match to Conn. College 3-2.  After taking the first two sets 27-25 and 25-19, the Owls dropped the final three sets 25-13, 25-17 and 25-11.

Sophomore Angela Silveri (Poughquag, N.Y.) led the offense with 12 kills with Branning chipping in with nine kills.  Sophomore Olivia Broderick (Gilford, N.H.) had five service aces and Michal added 17 assists.  Defensively, Boyer and Hadfield had 24 and 21 digs respectively while sophomore Madeline Nossif (Portsmouth, N.H.) had five blocks.

Keene State opens its Little East schedule next Wednesday (7 p.m.) with a match against four-time defending champs UMass-Boston at Clark Athletic Center.
