Owl swimmers have mixed results against Conn. College

NEW LONDON, CONN.1/15/14 – Keene State College swim teams had mixed results in a dual meet against Conn. College at the Lott Natatorium in New London, Conn. on Wednesday.

The Keene State men, ranked 17th in the latest Division III national poll, won 12 of 16 events to post a 164-124 victory over 10th ranked Conn. College.  The Owls improved their dual meet record to 7-1.

In the women's competition, sixth ranked Conn. College defeated the Owls 186-94.  Keene State dual meet record goes to 4-3.

Senior Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.) finished first in three races to lead the Owls, winning the 200 free (1:44.34), the 200 fly (1:55.09) and the 200 back (1:55.44).

Sophomore Shahar Resman (Ashdod, Israel) swam to wins in the 400 I.M. (4:14.64) and the 500 free (4:43.93).  Other first place performances were turned in by sophomore Greg Youngstrom (West Hartford, Conn.) in the 50 free (21.48), senior James Black (Lynn, Mass.) in the 100 free (48.62), and senior Jared Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) in the 200 I.M. (1:58.72).

Keene State prevailed in both relays.  The team of junior Randy Dunton (St. Cloud, Fla.), senior Dan Oliveira (Ludlow, Mass.), Hyde and Youngstrom won the 200 medley relay (1:37.27).  The foursome of Ledwith, Resman, Black, and Youngstrom won the 400 free relay (3:10.82).

Senior Josh Tuller (Plainview, N.Y.) won both the one-meter (318.90 points) and the three-meter (314.10 points) diving competition.

Junior Taylor DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y.) posted the lone win for the KSC women in swim races, placing first in the 100 back (1:01.82).

Sophomore Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) placed second in the 50 free (24.52) and the 100 free (54.03).  Freshman Rachel Butler (Marston Mills, Mass.) was second in the 200 back (2:15.25) and senior Alexis Houser (New Hope, Pa.) swam to a second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:16.20).

Sophomore Shannon Summers (Keene, N.H.) won both the one-meter (185.77 points) and the three-meter (189.82 points) diving events.

Keene State hosts Bentley University on Saturday (1 p.m.).
