KEENE, N.H. 1/18/14 – Keene State College men's and women's swim teams celebrated senior day by beating Bentley University in a dual meet held Saturday at Spaulding Gym Pool.
The nationally-ranked Keene State men (8-1) won all 16 events on the way to winning 185-103. The Owl women (5-3), won 11 of 14 swim races to defeat the Falcons 162-129.
"We always look forward to the Bentley meet because it's a great rivalry," said KSC Coach Jack Fabian. "Today we pulled together and really swam well and were pretty consistent finishing our races. It's tough coming off winter break and training to get your speed back."
Senior Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.) and junior Randy Dunton (St. Cloud, Fla.) each won three races for the Owls. Ledwith finished first in the 1,000 free (9:22.48), the 100 free (47.18) and the 500 free (4:36.76). Dunton touched the wall first in the 100 back (54.350, the 200 back (2:00.07) and the 200 IM (2:04.28).
Senior Dan Oliveira (Ludlow, Mass.) and freshman Nathan Shepherd (Keene, N.H.) were double winners. Oliveira won the100 fly (52.79) and 200 fly (2:00.68) while Shepherd took first in the 100 breast (1:03.25) and the 200 breast (2:17.69).
Sophomore Shahar Resman (Ashdod, Israel) won the 200 free (1:45.11) and freshman Ryan Boraski (North Attleborough, Mass.) won the 50 free (21.84).
KSC won both relays. The senior foursome of Harrison Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.), James Black (Lynn, Mass.), Jared Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) and Oliveira won the 200 medley relay 91:37.51). The team of freshman Greg Youngstrom (West Hartford, Conn.), Black, Boraski and Hyde won the 200 free relay (1:26.31).
Senior Josh Tuller (Plainview, N.Y.) had a good day on the board, winning the one-meter (266.35 points) and three-meter (287.75 points) diving events.
Fabian spoke highly about his seniors. " The men's program made the transition from a regional program to a national program with this group of men," he said. They're a special group. They want to be the first KSC men's swim team in the school's hall of fame."
Sophomores Alison Bartlett (Stratham, N.H.) and Amber Long (Dover, N.H.) and junior Caitlyn Shea (Salem, N.H.) each won two races for the KSC women. Bartlett won the 50 free (24.53) and the 100 free (54.49), Long won the 200 fly (2:15.02) and the 500 free (5:25.13) while Shea won the 100 fly (1:01.910 and the 1,000 free (10:59.99).
In other races, senior Alexis Houser (New Hope, Pa.) won the 200 free (2:00.50), classmate Nicole Rutigliano (Woodbury, Conn.) won the 100 back (1:02.51) and freshman Rachel Butler (Marston Mills, Mass.) won the 200 back (2:15.87)
The Owls prevailed in both relays. The group of junior Taylor DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y.), sophomores Corrina Nickerson (Torrington, Conn.) and Olivia Gallugi (Reading, Mass.) and Bartlett won the 200 medley relay (1:52.88) and the team of sophomore Brianna Laliberte (Candia, N.H.), Houser, DaSilva and Bartlett won the 200 free relay (1:40.76).
The Owls will swim next at UConn. Invitational on Sat., Feb. 8.
