Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 1/18/14 – The Keene State College Women's basketball team continued its struggles in Little East Conference play, falling to UMass-Dartmouth 70-57 at the Tripp Athletic Center in North Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.
After winning their first LEC game of the season, the Owls (8-6, 1-4 LEC) have dropped their last four LEC contests. UMass-Dartmouth improves to 9-5 (3-2 LEC).
Junior Christan Wojtas (Amherst, N.H.) and freshman Kelsey Cognetta (Stamford, Conn.) had 15 and 10 points respectively to lead Keene State in scoring. Senior Carly Kiernan (Topsfield, Mass.) and freshman Amanda Petrow (Methuen, Mass.) each pulled down eight rebounds. Kiernan also had three blocks in the game.
Freshman Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, Mass.) had a game high 17 points to go with eight rebounds to lead the Corsairs. Classmate Ashley Brown (Fairhaven, Mass.) added 14 points and senior Erika Bornemann (Canton, Mass.) finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
A three-pointer by Brown with 38 seconds to go gave UMD a 37-34 halftime lead.
Keene State trailed throughout the second half. Freshman Jovan Kingwood (Norwalk, Conn.) hit a lay- pulling the Owls to within two points (51-49) at the 10:46 mark.
UMass-Dartmouth took over from there, scoring the next 14 point of the game to go up 65-49 with 4:05 to play. Bornemman scored six points during the Corsairs' run.
Keene State is at Eastern Conn. on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.) for a LEC game.
