Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The Keene State women's basketball team faced a tall task in the season opener, falling to No. 4 Tufts University in the second game of the Ramada Roundball Invitational hosted by University of New England Saturday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Tufts began with nine unanswered points and never looked back on the way to a 79-48 women's basketball victory.
Freshman Kelsey Santagata had a great start to her career who came off the bench to lead the Owls in scoring with 16 points on 7-12 shooting while grabbing three rebounds and adding two assists. Sarah Kober added five points and five rebounds as a reserve, while Kelsey Cognetta netted seven points and Christan Wojtas scored six points for the Owls.
The duo of Hayley Kanner and Hannah Foley led the Jumbos with 17 and 16 points respectively.
Tufts stingy defense contributed to Keene State's struggles in the shooting department, going 19-59 (32%) from the field, hitting just two of its 16 three-point shots (12.5%) and going 8-12 (66.7%) at the line. The Owls also lost the battle of the boards 49-32.
Keene State and Wellesley will square off in Sunday's consolation game, which will tip at 4 p.m.
