Owls Take The Sting Out Of Hornets, 84-63

Box Score

KEENE, N.H.--Tom Doyle scored 17 points in 18 minutes, leading the Keene State College men's basketball team to an 84-63 win over Lyndon State College on Saturday at Spaulding Gym.

Keene State maintains their unbeaten start, improving to 4-0 this season.  The Hornets are 1-3.

Doyle was one of four Owls in double-figures - Nate Howard added 12 points and nine rebounds in 13 minutes, while Jimmy Layman and Matt Ozzella each tossed in 10.

David Johnson led Lyndon State with 17 points, connecting on 10 of 11 free throws.

The Owls ran out to a quick 5-0 lead on a layup by Howard, and Doyle stole the ensuing inbounds pass and drained a three from the right side with less than a minute played.

Lyndon State responded by going on a 9-2 run over the next three minutes, culminating in a three pointer and two free throws by Johnson for a 9-7 lead.

KSC responded with an 11-3 run of their own, as Ozzella converted a three point play and Nate Stitchell fed Rob Brown for a layup with 10:25 to go.

The Owls never looked back, taking a 47-28 lead when Carlos Ovalle drilled a three point shot just ahead of the halftime buzzer.

Owen Murphy's jumper with 11:46 left in the game gave the Owls their biggest lead at 70-36.

KSC limited the Hornets to 33% shooting for the game, and allowed just 16 made field goals.  Lyndon State shot 28 of 38 from the free throw line.  KSC outrebounded Lyndon State 44-33 and shot 53% from the field.

"We talked about some things at halftime," said head coach Rob Colbert.  "It was just continuing to force the tempo.  It was nice to be able to play some of the younger kids."

The Owls will remain at home for their final game before the Thanksgiving holiday, hosting Springfield at 7:30.  Lyndon State will play in-state rival Castleton State on December 3.
