Box Score KEENE, NH - The Keene State College women's basketball team took home second place in the KSC Holiday Tournament after falling to William Paterson 65-53 Wednesday afternoon at Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Pioneers jumped out to 16-7 lead but back-to-back 3-pointers by Sandi Purcell and Christan Wojtas pulled the Owls within three (16-13) with 10:53 left in the first half. William-Paterson went on an 11-0 run over the next 6:07 and took a 34-20 lead into halftime.
The Owls opened the second half on a 3-pointer by Kelsey Cognetta to pull within 11 and put together a 7-0 run on a three point play by Cognetta, a layup by Sarah Kober and free throws by Courntey Roberts to pull with three (39-36) at the 13:34 mark.
The Pioneers responded with nine point run of their own to put the game away and earn the tournament title.
Keene State was led by Christan Wojtas' 15 points, while Courntey Roberts came off the bench to score 15 to go along with four rebounds. Cognetta added six points, five assists and two steals.
For the visitors, Sara Luberto scored 21 points to go with four rebounds and teammate Brittany Harden added 20 points on 7-10 shooting, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Alex Mine came off the bench to pull down a team high nine boards to go with eight points.
William Paterson shot 44.2% from the field and a blistering 6-10 from behind the arc. The Owls won the battle of the boards 42-37.
KSC returns to the court Tuesday when they travel to Fitchburg State for a 7 p.m. start.
In the third-place game, Anna Maria defeated Regis College 43-42.
