Box Score KEENE, N.H.- A season high 28 points from Southern Maine guard
Erin McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) proved to be the difference as
the Keene State College Owls (11-8, 3-6 LEC) fell 56-40 to the
visiting Huskies (13-6, 6-3) on Saturday afternoon at Spaulding
Gymnasium.
KSC's Kelsey
Cognetta (Stamford, Conn.) started the game by hitting her
first two three-pointers and helping to spark a 14-6 lead for Keene
State with 10:28 on the clock.
The Huskies called timeout at 10:25, which proved to be the stop
in action Southern Maine needed, as they held the Owls to just six
points the rest of the half.
McNamara was the catalyst of the team's comeback, finishing the
half with 12 and helping Southern Maine to a 23-20 lead at the
break.
The Owls fought to keep the deficit to single digits coming out
of the second half. A layup by senior forward Carly Kiernan
(Topsfield, Mass.) right out of the half cut the Southern Maine
lead to just one, but a 16-7 run until the 11:10 brought the score
to 39-29, and Keene State would not get any closer.
McNamara stayed hot from the field, going 4-for-7 from the field
in the second half, including four more triples.
The Owls finished the game 12-for-49 from the floor (24.5%)
while the Huskies finished 18-for-49 (36.7%).
Cognetta finished with a game high 12 points for KSC, all coming
in the first half. Freshman Stephanie
D'Annolfo (Tyngsborough, Mass.) pulled down a game-high eight
rebounds for the Owls.
Keene State stays at home for the next game, welcoming visiting
Middlebury College to Spaulding Gym on February
4th. Southern Maine returns home to Gorham to take
on visiting Colby College also on the 4th.
