Box Score KEENE, N.H.--On the annual "Red-Out" night, Keene State cruised to a 66-34 victory over Little East Conference rivals Plymouth State Tuesday night in Spaulding Gymnasium.
Sophomore Christan Wojtas (Amherst, N.H.) led KSC with 12 points as the Owls improved their record to 12-12 (4-9 LEC). The Panthers fall to 2-20 (1-12 LEC).
A slow start for both teams saw the score locked at 12-9 in favor of the Owls until the 7:40 mark when a Wojtas jumped broke the game open for Keene State and they finished the half on a 17-5 run to make the halftime score 31-14.
The Owls played stifling defense from the first inbounds pass of the second half, keeping Plymouth scoreless all the way until 11:05 mark when a Taylor Perry (Simsbury, Conn.) jump shot finally got the Panthers on the board.
By that point the Owls had increased their lead to 46-16 and coasted to the final score.
DeAsia Lawrence (Middletown, Conn.) led the Panthers with 14 points on 6-of-19 shooting.
Sophomore guard Kelsey Cognetta (Stamford, Conn.) was the only other Owl in double figures, scoring 11. Freshman Stephanie D'Annolfo (Tyngsborough, Mass.) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The Owls forced Plymouth into 29 turnovers and held them to 24.4% shooting from the field, and 13 of the Owls' 15 players scored in the game. KSC also held a 48-35 advantage on the boards, including a 21-12 edge on the offensive end.
"It's a matter of toughness and taking defense personally," said head coach Keith Boucher said after the game. "Tonight they did. It's a matter of us making a conscious effort on every play defensively."
Keene State finishes the season at home against UMass Dartmouth on February 22nd at 1:00 PM. Plymouth hits the road for their last regular season game of the year as they take on Rhode Island College on the same date and time.
The game was also the Owls' "Play 4 Kay" night, where all ticket sales go directly to the Kay Yow Foundation for breast cancer awareness.
