Box Score 2 Amherst, Mass. - The Keene State College (10-12, 2-4 LEC) softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games Friday when they hit the road to take on Amherst College 17-7, 4-4 NESCAC). The Owls fought hard for a 6-3 loss in game one, and then struggle in game two, losing 11-3 in 5 innings.
The Owls failed to record a 1-2-3 inning in either game.
Sophomore Mariah Crisp went the distance for the Owls, giving up four earned runs on 15 hits while striking out 6.
KSC took a 3-2 lead in the 4th inning when Rachel Boynton hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Sarah Braken. She was immediately driven home when Katie Newell followed her with a bases-clearing double, scoring Aliza Guerrero and Boynton.
The Owls were able to lock Amherst down in the fourth inning, holding them to two harmless hits, but the Jeffs scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth inning to finish with a final score of 6-3.
Boynton went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI while Newell knocked in two runs on her only hit.
Game two saw the Jeffs' offense come alive quickly, beating the Owls for eight runs in the first inning.
After the Jeffs added three more runs in the third inning, Keene State made a late push in the fifth inning.
Morgan Fallon singled through the six-hole to knock in Stephanie Long from third. Then sophomore Anna Glassman tripled to right-center, scoring Sara Bracken and Fallon.
Unfortunately it was too little, too late for the Owls and they fell 11-3 in just five innings.
The Owls return to Keene for an LEC double header against Southern Maine. It will be just the second time this season KSC plays on their home field.
