Box Score 2 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.--The Keene State College softball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader to regionally ranked Williams College on Monday afternoon. The Ephs took game one 2-0, and the second game 9-0.
KSC falls to 11-14, while Williams improves to 20-6.
Keene State was limited to one hit in each game. In game one, Williams was unable to get anything across against KSC starter Mariah Crisp until the fourth inning. Crisp got out of a jam in the first inning when Erica Li singled and Ali Graebner walked, but got Priscilla Pino to line out to second base to end the threat.
Williams had the go-ahead run in scoring position in the third, but Crisp again kept the game scoreless, getting Kacey Cramer to strikeout swinging.
The Owls had their best scoring chance in the top of the fourth when Aliza Guerrero drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and moved to third on Morgan Fallon's groundout. Guerrero was left stranded when Rachel Boynton flied out to right and Elissa Coburn grounded out. Williams broke through in the bottom half, when Graebner led off with a single and Pino homered to center.
Guerrero drew another walk to open the sixth inning, and stole second, but the Ephs got out of trouble when Fallon grounded out to first and Guerrero was tagged out at third.
Crisp finished with eight strikeouts in a complete game effort. Rachel Boynton had KSC's lone hit, a single to lead off the second inning.
The nightcap saw Williams jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. A single and two walks loaded the bases with one out, and a pair of KSC errors allowed three runs to score. Williams added four more in the third, courtesy of a three run homer by Melissa Cendejas and a double by Alison Michalik, and two more in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
Sara Bracken picked up a hit for the Owls with a double to left-center in the top of the first. Katie Newell started, going 3.1 innings and striking out two. Kellie Saunders did not allow a run in 0.2 innings of relief.
The Owls will travel to LEC rival Plymouth State on Wednesday for a doubleheader that begins at 3:30 pm. Williams plays at Skidmore tomorrow.
