Box Score GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore Mariah Crisp struck out 14 batters and freshman Aliza Guerrero and sophomore Morgan Fallon each hit solo home runs to lead the Keene State University Owls to a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference softball game Friday afternoon at Towers Field.
With the win, the Owls stop a four-game slide and improve to 12-16 overall and 4-6 in the Little East Conference. Southern Maine drops its fourth consecutive game and is 14-19 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
Crisp's 14 strikeouts is one shy of her career and school record 15 in a game. Crisp was outstanding allowing just one hit – an infield single – and did not walk a batter. Additionally, Crisp only had one ball leave the infield, a shallow fly ball to left field in the top of the sixth inning. Crisp is 8-8 on the season.
With Crisp in control in the circle, the Owls' took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on Fallon's first home run of the season. Fallon's solo shot cleared the Huskies' left field fence. Guerrero tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth with her third home run of the season for the 2-0 final.
Huskies' senior Stefanie Stockwell pitched well in the loss and is 9-9 on the season. Stockwell struck out eight, but yielded two runs on four hits and two walks. Junior Kristen Duross recorded the Huskies' lone hit with a single in the top of the second.
Southern Maine hosts Eastern Connecticut State on Sunday (12:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference doubleheader. The Huskies' Eastern Connecticut doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved due to forecasted weather. Keene State travels to UMass Boston on Sunday (12:00 p.m.) for an LEC doubleheader.
