KSC Women's Track Second At LEC Championship

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.--Samantha Goldsmith won both the 5,000 meters and the steeplechase, while Nicole Marrero won the javelin as the Keene State College women's track and field team finished in second place at the Little East Conference Championship, hosted by UMass-Dartmouth on Sunday.

Goldsmith cruised to victory in the 5,000, finishing in 18:09.97, more than a minute in front of Southern Maine's Morgan Beede.  Goldsmith and teammate Kaley Mientkiewicz took the top two places in the steeplechase, with Goldsmith in front in 11:21.64 and Mientkewicz in 11:35.84. 

Carli Davis added a second place finish in the 1,500 meters, in 4:55.94, as did Katelyn Terry in the 800 meters, in 2:20.38.  

Marrero dominated the javelin throw, with a toss of 38.22 meters, well ahead of Southern Maine's Natasha Wallace.  Sarah DiTonno was fourth in the hammer (40.15 meters) and Karisa Bergman was fourth in the discus (33.26 meters).  DiTonno and Bergman were also third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put, with DiTonno in 11.06 meters and Bergman at 10.82 meters.

Lucia Martin was third in the pole vault, leaping 2.75 meters.

KSC piled up 104 points, only behind Southern Maine, who finished with 185.5 points to win the title for the 14th consecutive year.

The Owls return to action at the New England Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College, on May 2-3.
