Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - The Keene State volleyball team played their best match of the Captains Classic Saturday afternoon in their five set loss to Bridgewater (Va.). KSC dropped the first set 30-32, won the next two 25-23, 25-22 and lost the final two 19-25 and 12-15.
The Owls finished the season opening tournament at 0-4, while the Eagles pick up their first win of the seaosn for a 1-2 record.
KSC was led by Angela Silveri and Samantha Branning who totaled 14 and 11 kills respectively. Brooke Bell and Cat Kazazian combined for 40 assists, while Silveri and Alexis Michal combined for 30 digs.
For the Eagles, Megann Grimes had 15 kills and Shannon Skellchock tallied 43 assists.
In the fifth set, the Owls pulled out to a 3-0 lead on Christine Hadfield's kill but the Eagles went on their own run of four points for the 4-3 advantage. Down 9-13, KSC rattled off three points on kills by Hadfield and Branning and a service ace by Silveri to come within one point. That pust was not enough as the Eagles went on to win the final set.
Up next for Keene State, a non-conference match at Westfield State Wednesday, September 3 at 7 pm.
