NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - The Keene State volleyball team fell to Virginia Wesleyan 3-0 Saturday morning at the Captains Classic at Christopher Newport University.

The Marlins (2-1) defeated the Owls (0-3) in three consecutive sets, 13-25, 13-25 and 25-27.

For the Owls, Brooke Bell and Alexis Michal combined for 15 assists. Michal also added a team high 20 digs, while Christine Hadfield finished with eight kills.

The Marlins were led by Alex Lambert's 16 kills and Kirstin Sessoms' 31 assists.

KSC led 23-19 in the third set before three straight points by Virginia Wesleyan which forced a Keene State timeout. Samantha Branning's kill tied the set at 25, but the Owls were unable to overcome the Marlins final push.

KSC will face Bridgewater (Va.) in their final match of the tournament.
