Box Score KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State College women's volleyball team dropped their Little East Conference opener to UMass Boston, 3-1 Thursday night at Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Owls (7-11, 0-1 LEC) challeneged the visitors in each game before falling by set scores of 16-25, 19-25, 25-21 and 20-25 to the five-time LEC Champion Beacons (12-3, 2-0 LEC).
Down 7-15 in the second set, Christine Hadfield produced four service aces and a kill to tie the game at 15-15. The Beacons would answer with a run of their own and eventually pull away for the 25-19 victory.
The Owls started off the third game on a high note going up 10-3 on a Leslie Hearns ace. UMass Boston tried to creep back in, but a kill by Samantha Branning secured the thirs set for Keene State at 25-21.
Angela Silveri led the Owls offense with seven kills, while Branning and Hadfield combined for 12 kills. Setters Brooke Bell and Alexis Michal totaled 27 assists and 24 digs.
Blair Boyer had 12 kills and Pepper Baker added nine kills and 10 digs to lead the Beacons. Setter Emma Rocha had 27 assists and Elizabeth Glavan tallied a match-high 22 digs and team leading three service aces.
Keene State hosts Eastern Connecticut State (12 p.m.) and Bowdoin College (4 p.m.) in a tri-match on Saturday. The Beacons welcome Tufts University to town Tuesday at 7 p.m.
