Box Score NORTON, Mass. - The Keene State volleyball team fell to Wheaton College 3-0 (17-25, 23-25, 23-25) in the second game of their tri-match Saturday afternoon.
Brooke Bell tallied 19 assists, Samantha Branning chipped in eight digs, while Katie Cunningham and Alexis Michal totaled 30 digs.
The Lyons (3-3) registered 38 kills, 35 assists, 52 digs and seveon blocks over the Owls.
In set one, the hosts led from their 13-12 advantage and onward as the Lyons posted a 12-5 run to close out the opening stanza. Back-to-back errors by both teams ended the set at 25-17, but Wheaton used that momentum to sweep the Owls despite late rallies in set two and three from the opposition.
Wheaton only trailed once during the last two sets, which occurred in the third frame with the score at its highest point at 4-2 in favor of the Owls. The Lyons built up a lead as large as nine (20-11) in set two and six points (20-14) in set three. KSC had late rallies as the second and third set ended in with a score of 25-23 in favor of the Lyons.
The Owls (2-5) return to action for their home-opener against Western New England Tuesday at 7 p.m., while the Lyons participate in the 34th annual Ocean State Classic next weekend.
