Box Score KEENE, NH - Keene State College senior Courtney Roberts scored all of her 19 points in the second half but the comeback was too late as Eastern Connecticut held on for a 62-55 LEC victory Tuesday night at Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Owls drop to 9-7, 2-4 in conference play, while the Warriors have now won five straight to improve to 11-5, 5-1.
The KSC defense held Eastern Connecticut scoreless for the first 3:36 of the game unil a Kristina Forsman layup sparked a 12-2 run by the Warriors to make it 12-4 at the 12:29 mark. A Sandi Purcell 3-pointer made it a five point game (12-7), however the Warriors would extend their lead to as much as 12 points going into the locker room with a 27-15 advantage.
Down 17 (40-23) with 12:39 left in the second half, the Owls went on a 16-4 run powered by 12 points from Roberts to come within five (44-39). That's as close as KSC would come in the second half as Eastern converted free throws down the stretch to pull out the win.
Purcell finished with 12 points, while Stephanie D'Annolfo added five points and a team high 10 rebounds. Sarah Kober grabbed nine board to go with five points.
Four players for Eastern Conn. scored in double figures led by Forsman's 17. Jill Ritrosky and Shannon McCourt each finished with double-doubles. Ritrosky recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds, while McCourt ended the game with 12 points and 10 boards.
In upcoming action, KSC will hit the road for a non-conference matchup at Middlebury Thursday at 6 p.m. Eastern Connecticut returns home as the Warriors host Rhode Island College Saturday at 1 p.m.
