Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Emily Biggs scored 1:48 into overtime to give Smith College a 2-1 win over Keene State College in non-conference field hockey at Owl Athletic Complex.
Keene State has lost three straight contests, and falls to 12-7. The Pioneers improve to 9-8. It was the second overtime loss in three games for Keene State.
Julia Hamilton gave the Pioneers an early lead in the 25th minute when she fired home her seventh goal of the year. It was the only shot on goal of the first half for Smith.
KSC turned up the pressure after halftime, outshooting Smith 13-3, and were rewarded when Erica Stauffer deflected in Sami Smith's attempt for her fifth goal this year, tying the game at 1-1.
The Owls could not breach the goal of Cameo Tietje, who pushed aside efforts shots from Sami Smith and Kendal Brown to keep the score tied.
Early in the overtime period, the Pioneers were awarded a penalty corner, and Biggs deflected her own rebound up and over KSC goalie Meaghan Dwyer for Smith's first win over Keene State since 1997.
Dwyer finished with one save; Tietje made eight for Smith.
Keene State closes out the regular season by welcoming Framingham State to town for a 2 p.m. start on October 31. Before the game, seniors Haylie Dolan, Meaghan Dwyer, and Emily Medeiros will be honored for their contributions to the program. Smith travels to Clark University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
