Field Hockey Crushes Framingham State On Senior Day

KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College field hockey team sent the class of 2016 out with a bang, with an 11-3 rout of Framingham State University on Senior Day at Owl Athletic Complex.

Keene State finishes the regular season at 13-7, and 9-2 in the LEC.  The Owls will be the No. 3 seed in the LEC tournament and host Bridgewater State University in a quarterfinal matchup on November 3 at 6 p.m. 

The Rams end the season at 4-14, and 2-9 in LEC play.

Sami Smith had three goals and an assist, her third hat-trick of the season.  Julia Babbitt scored twice, while Erica Stauffer, Mia Brickley, Haylie Dolan, Brittany Johnson, Marita Brothers, and Kayla Renaud each scored once.

Dolan, Johnson, Sami Smith, and Brittney Cardente each had an assist.  All four KSC goalkeepers saw time; Meaghan Dwyer started and did not make a save in 17:29 in the cage.  Gwendolyn Thayer played 24 minutes and made two saves, as did Nicole DiFilippo in 18 minutes of work, and Kendra Lonergan did not make a save in 11 minutes of action.  

Keene State scored twice in the first eight minutes of the game, as Sami Smith got both goals.  Renaud, Brothers, and Babbitt all scored in the first half to send KSC into the lockerroom up 5-0.

Smith completed the hat-trick and Dolan scored to make it 7-0 before the Rams brokeup the shuout on Meaghann Ackerman's penalty stroke.  

Johnson, Stauffer, Babbitt and Brickley all scored before the Rams tacked on two more in the final seven minutes.

Before the game, seniors Dolan, Dwyer, and Emily Medeiros were honored for their contributions to the program.
