Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine--Kimmy Gangong scored twice, including the go-ahead goal in the 23rd minute as No. 1 Bowdoin College claimed a 5-1 win over Keene State College in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Field Hockey tournament.
The Owls, who were in the second round for the second time in three seasons, end the year at 17-8. Bowdoin, who was the national runner up last year and won national titles in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2013, improves to 19-0 and will face the winner of Wellesley College and the University of New England in the round of eight.
Ganong opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game with an unassisted tally, but Keene State struck right back, as Sami Smith scored her 25th goal of the year to knot the score at 1-1.
Ganong put the Polar Bears in front for good off a feed from Kelley Mullaney in the 23rd minute before Liz Znamierowski scored less than two minutes later for a 3-1 lead.
Rachel Kennedy scored on a penalty stroke four minutes before halftime for a 4-1 lead. Sarah Jane Weill wrapped up the scoring in the 58th minute.
Senior Meaghan Dwyer made 15 saves in her final game in the cage for Keene State. Gwendolyn Thayer made one stop in 19 minutes of action.
The Owls, who have won the last three LEC championships, return all but Dwyer, Haylie Dolan, and Emily Medeiros to next year's team.
