Box Score KEENE, N.H.--Nate Stitchell scored a career high 32 points as the Keene State College men's basketball team outlasted Green Mountain College 108-104 in the opening game of the 2015 Keene State College Tip-Off Tournament.
Keene State (1-0) will play Endicott in the championship tomorrow at 3 p.m. The Gulls were 93-89 winners over Elms College. Elms and Green Mountain will play in the consolation, with a 1 p.m. tip-off on tap.
Stitchell was one of four Owls in double-figures; Dizel Wright had 19, Ty Nichols had 18, and Lucas Hammel had 11. Stitchell added six assists and five steals to go with his big scoring outburst. Nate Howard pulled down a team best 12 rebounds.
Jared Carithers led the Eagles with 23, followed by Cameron Anderson with 21, Thomas Brown with 19, and former University of Maryland player Mychal Parker with 16.
Keene State raced out to a 13-4 lead as Stitchell hit a pair of threes and Hammel knocked down another, but the Eagles closed to within nine on a three from Parker. Carithers knocked down a three just ahead of the halftime buzzer to make it a 47-41 game at the break.
Green Mountain scored the first six points of the half to tie the score, and took the lead on five consecutive points by Anderson at 54-53.
The game remained back-and-forth until Stitchell knocked down a three with 11:26 remaining that put KSC back in front. KSC then slowly pulled away, as Jaquel Edwards and Stitchell made back-to-back threes, and Matt Ozzella tipped in Wright's layup for an 83-77 lead.
Hammel connected on a jumper with 1:24 left for a 99-89 lead, but the Eagles went on a 15-7 run to trim it to 106-104 with 21 seconds left. Wright knocked down a pair of free throws to restore a four point lead, and Anderson and Brown both missed three pointers in the final seconds.
