Keene State Captures Tip-Off Classic, 100-88 Over Endicott

Box Score

KEENE, N.H.--Tournament Most Valuable Player Nate Stitchell led five Keene State College players in double-figures as the Owls captured the 2015 Keene State College Tip-Off Tournament with a 100-88 win over Endicott College on Sunday afternoon at Spaulding Gym.

The Owls (2-0) will take on Lasell on November 19 at 7 pm in their next contest.  The Gulls drop to 1-1 and will face Clark University at the Herb Kenney Memorial Tournament at Wesleyan University.

Stitchell led the Owls with 22 points, while Jeff Lunn had 15, and Jaquel Edwards, Dizel Wright, and Nate Howard each had 14.

Keene State shot 58.3% from the floor and outrebounded the Gulls 44-28.  The Owls withstood a phenomenal game from Kamahl Walker, who scored a game high 47 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field and 23-of-23 from the foul line.

The game was tied at 19 on a pair of free throws from Walker, but the Owls rattled off the next 19 points on the strength of a three pointer from Lunn and two more triples from Edwards.

The Owls pushed the lead to 55-38 at halftime as Stitchell knocked down a three with two seconds to go in the stanza.

Lunn's layup with 15:48 to go in the game pushed the Owl lead to 65-47, but the Gulls embarked on a 25-5 run over the next five minutes to take a 72-70 lead.  Walker had 20 points during that stretch, getting on fouled on consecutive three point attempts and both times, making all three shots.

The Owls took the lead back at 76-74 on Howard's jumper, and slowly pulled away as Ty Nichols and Dizel Wright hit shots down the stretch.   Howard powered home a dunk with 18 seconds to go for the final margin of victory.
