Box Score BOSTON, Mass.--Michael Campbell scored 26 points and 13 rebounds off the bench as the UMass Boston men's basketball team handed Keene State College a 77-70 loss in Little East Conference action on Saturday.
The Owls had their season opening six game winning streak ended and are 6-1 overall, and 1-1 in the LEC. The Beacons are now 5-5, and 1-1.
Keene State committed 18 turnovers and went to the foul line 19 times, compared to 30 free throw attempts for UMass Boston.
Lucas Hammel led Keene State with 18 points, while Ty Nichols and Nate Howard each had 14 and Nate Stitchell had 11.
The Owls, who never led in the game, fell behind 7-2 in the early going on Campbell's jump shot. Another jumper from Campbell and a three from Dan Powers increased the Beacons' lead to 21-13.
Two three pointers from Hammel got Keene State within 32-29, and the Owls trailed 38-34 at halftime on Howard's layup with nine seconds remaining.
The Beacons opened the second half on an 11-2 run capped by two free throws from Maurice Magras, but Keene State would rally, going on a 19-6 run of their own fueled by threes from Nichols and Hammel to tie the game at 55.
Back-to-back buckets from Campbell pushed the Beacons back into a 65-60 lead, only to see Stitchell can a three and Nichols sink a layup with 2:09 left that tied the game. Campbell knocked down 1-of-2 at the line to put the Beacons back in front, then fed Magras for a three from the corner that made it a two possession game.
UMass Boston was 8-for-8 down the stretch from the free throw line to salt away the win.
Keene State is not in action until December 29, when the Owls will play defending national champion and No. 9 ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point in Phoenix, Arizona.
