Women's Basketball Off To Best Start In School History

Box Score

PHOENIX, Ariz.--The Keene State College women's basketball team shot 55% in the second half in a 80-49 win over Worcester State University on Tuesday at Arizona Shootout.

Keene State maintains their perfect start to the year, improving to 9-0, the best start in school history.  The 1989-90 team had won their first eight games.

Sandi Purcell scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, connecting on five three pointers, while Stephanie D'Annolfo had 11 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.  Ryanne Williams contributed 10 points.

Sarah Kober's layup with five minutes left in the first quarter put Keene State in front, and the Owls slowly pulled away, taking a 16-11 lead at the end of the period when Lydia Vital found D'Annolfo for a layup.

Britt Herring's layup with 7:05 left in the second quarter gave the Lancers a 17-16 lead, only to see Keene State go on a 24-4 run, fuelled by a trio of three pointers from Purcell.  Brianna Hackett's three with four seconds left cut the lead to 40-24 at the half.

Keene State never looked back, taking their largest lead at 76-38 on Josie Amerson's layup with 5:43 left in the fourth quarter.

The Owls outrebounded the Lancers 44-27, including a 15-5 edge on the offensive glass, while forcing 22 turnovers.

Keene State returns to action in the Grand Canyon State on Wednesday, playing SUNY Polytechnic at 4 p.m. EST.
