Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz.--The Keene State College women's basketball team will end 2015 undefeated, as the Owls ran their record to 10-0 with a 75-43 win over SUNY Polytechnic in their final game of the of Arizona Shootout on Wednesday.
The Owls, who set the school mark for the best start to a season with yesterday's win over Worcester State, are now one shy of the school record for consecutive wins of 11, which they can match with a victory over Fitchburg State on January 4. The 2006-07 team, the only squad to make the NCAA tournament in the Division III era at Keene State, won 11 in a row.
Amanda Petrow led five Keene State players in double-figures with 14 points, while pulling down five rebounds and blocking three shots. Emily McPadden, Sandi Purcell, and Stephanie D'Annolfo each tossed in 12 points, and Sarah Kober had 10 points. Kober grabbed a team high seven rounds.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, going up 7-1 on a three from Geena Gallo with 7:30 left in the first quarter. Keene State finished the period on a 22-6 run, taking a 12-11 lead on D'Annolfo's layup with 4:15 on the clock. Purcell drained one of her three three pointers with 26 seconds left for a 23-13 lead after one.
A trey from McPadden with 7:24 left increased KSC's lead to 28-18, and Purcell scored five straight points to make it 35-21. Lydia Vital knocked down a jumper wiith 20 seconds left as KSC took a 39-23 lead into the locker-room at halftime.
KSC exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 25-8 in the frame and punctuated by yet another shot in the final seconds, as McPadden sank a three pointer with nine seconds left for a 64-31 lead.
The Wildcats never got closer, as Keene State lead 69-33 on Jose Amerson's layup with 6:02 to go. Keene State limited SUNY Polytechnic to 28.6% shooting from the floor, and harassed the Wildcats into 26 turnovers.
