NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Amy Pereira qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the long jump as the Keene State College track & field team opened the season at the Smith Invitational on Saturday.
Pereira finished sixth overall with a jump of 5.06 meters, well ahead of the qualifying standard of 4.97 meters. Pereira was also eighth in the shot put, throwing 10.26 meters.
Senior Lauren Markoe notched a win in the 800 meters, in 2:27.84, missing out on her own New England Divison III qualification by .34 seconds. Markoe also placed fifth in the mile in 5:33.97.
Alyssa Lombardi was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:27.84, and was eighth in the mile in 5:43.41, and Brittany Gravallese was seventh in the 600 meter run in 1:45.74. The Keene State 4x400 relay team was seventh in 4:25.40.
In men's action, Devin Sanford placed third in the 400 meter dash in 52.09, while Eric Deitz was just behind in 52.65. Both KSC 4x400 teams were in the top five as well, with the "A" in 3.42.00 and the "B" in 3:52.68.
Quentin Bazarnicki was fourth in the pole vault in 3.79 meters , and Jared Hannon was sixth in the long jump in 6.16 meters.
The season continues next week at the Jay Carisella Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Mass.
