BOSTON, Mass.--Junior Eric Dietz broke the school record in the 400 meter dash as the Keene State College track and field team began competition at the Open New England Championships at Boston University on Friday.
Teammate Devin Sanford, who had held the record since last year at 50.73 seconds, blew past it to set a new mark of 50.43 in the first heat, but Dietz, racing in the third heat, claimed the mark for his own at 50.11 seconds.
Dietz, who also holds the KSC record in the 500 meter run, was also just a hair away from breaking the school record in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 22.98; the KSC record is 22.95 set by Matt Zaffini in 2000.
For the Owl women, sophomore Katelyn Terry set a new personal best in the 400 meter dash at 58.34, a time that ranks 23rd in NCAA Division III. Sister Lindsey Terry also set a new PR in the 500 meters, in 1:18.14.
Lauren Markoe and Allison Brady both set season bests in the 800 meters, with Markoe at 2:17.62 and Brady at 2:22.88.
The meet continues on Saturday.
